Doves Type Headline was designed for larger applications such as titles, headings, and sub-headings. It evolved due to practical considerations arising from work on the Thames Tideway project. It is lighter and sharper that the Text font, recommended for sizes above 20 pt, for use as an optically adjusted cut of the Doves Type.

The Doves Type Version 5 – released Sep 2026
The font has been redrawn based on examples of type in an early printed source, Doves Tennyson (1902: Tidcombe DP4). Microscope images of glyphs were cross‑referenced with enlargements of the metal type to ensure accurate outlines.
Diacritics were updated, taken from Doves Milton, Paradise Regain’d (1905: Tidcombe DP7), which contains all but one of the original accented glyphs, eliminating some earlier guesswork. Spacing was refined, several proportions adjusted, and extensive revisions made to glyphs added in previous versions to extend the original metal fount’s character set.
